Control the cold vs. Flu Before it starts: Controlling a flu vs. cold before it starts means you may have to stay away from others. Free 165 pages interactive/multimedia controlling the flu vs. cold manual!

You can control a flu vs. cold with a self-imposed quarantine!

There are signs that point to the next flu season being much more of a challenge. The swine flu has replaced the seasonal flu. So, the seasonal flu is now the swine flu. Recently, there were signs that Tamiflu would not work as well. Tamiflu is our number one drug that lowers flu problems. If Tamiflu does become less effective, it will mean more people will need to control the flu before it starts.

Ten sequences/samples from Korea/Japan patients showed nine had H274Y. H274Y shows a low reactor to Tamiflu. That means Tamiflu most likely will not control it. There are mutations that could give us problems. Click here for more facts.

A huge decision maker will be the numbers. How bad will the next flu wave get? If the next wave is the same as the first two, many people will do what they did before. However, the more severe the next wave is, the more we all must get serious about how to protect ourselves.

I have a friend that will be having her baby in November. She could have her child in the middle of a severe flu wave. The next flu wave could start before/during/after. The flu is most dangerous to pregnant women in the third semester. That is the last three months of her pregnancy. You have to plan on what you are going to do. Otherwise, you will just react to whatever happens with poor decisions.

This also applies to people who are in the high-risk groups.

Other than getting your flu shot.  The best way to control the cold vs. flu before it starts is by far a self-imposed quarantine. The people who should go into this room are as follows:

1. The breadwinner (He or she goes out in public for the family/group). They do this to make money, buy supplies, pick up medical items, etc. The room protects the family from this person.

2. A person who is at high-risk of having severe/fatal problems if they catch the flu. The room protects the person in the room from the group/family that go out in the public. This would be during a bad but not severe flu wave.

3. A family member/anyone who is not living with you at the time who wants to live there with you. That person must past the test first. That test is they do not show any flu like symptoms for at least a week before they can join the group.

If the person is, high-risk they need to treat all others like they have the flu. A mild case of the flu to a non high-risk person, could be fatal to the person at high-risk.

High-risk people must stay away from people. That also includes family. The tips below are for those at high-risk of severe/fatal problems during a bad/severe flu wave.

1.    The idea is to stay away from others in the house. The at-risk person should stay alone in a special room when others are at home.
2.    That person should wear safety gloves while in the house.
3.    They should not wash contaminated clothes. They should stay in their room for at least 1 hour after everyone has left.
4.    The use of an air-cleansing unit would be wise.
5.    All of their pets should stay in the house at all times. The pet could pick up the germ outside.
6.    The at-risk person could fix the meals.
7.    However, it would be risky for someone else to fix the meals for them.
8.    They should wear a facemask while in the living area.
9.    No matter how bad you want to touch a friend, do not period.  That is one of the most important rules.

The woman that might be having a Baby during the Height of the Next Flu season is PRECIOUS!

You will have to decide which level of how to control the flu best fits you. That will depend on how bad the flu gets. Follow http://flustop.blogspot.com for updates. Beware of other websites/blogs that copy this site. You can also get a free newsletter that will let you know about all things that are swine flu related. You will not have to stay in isolation for a year. You could stay in isolation for as long as the flu is in your area. Go to Google flu trends, to see what the intensity of the flu wave is in your area.

Caring for a loved one is not as easy as it sounds. Everyone should have some form of quarantine plan for their home. Even if you are outside the house every day, you still need to protect yourself from other people. You cannot let anyone into the house because you do not know where they have been.  If you let sick relatives into your home, you need to prepare a quarantine room and have all the needed tools to care for that person. You do not want to infect the rest of the family. Especially, if you have a high-risk person in your home, you must be careful.

The type of quarantine you decide to use will depend on how severe the flu wave gets.

A.    The most secure is a total ruthless quarantine. That is when nobody leaves the house for any reason. You would need people to deliver supplies. Some schools/academies did this in 1918. They did not have anyone catch the germ in the world’s worst flu outbreak ever.

B.    The next best thing is when one person leaves the house for work/supplies. That person would have to stay in an isolation room. This would be to protect the family from the germ.

C.    The third most secure would be a room for a high-risk person. In this case the room would be made to protect the person at high-risk from family/friends. The person at high-risk would stay away from people in public and at home. This would last as long as the flu was active in your area.

D.     The last way to stop the flu is to go out as usual but use good safety habits.

In a perfect world, everyone gets ready ahead of time. We would have our room checked by our doctor/expert. However, in the real world, many of us will need to get by with our best effort. We must make sure our room that protects us meets a few goals. They include:

1.    The isolation from should have only one purpose.
2.    The bedroom should have a private bathroom within the bedroom. If not the person inside the room should use their own bathroom.
3.    The room should have drinkable water, electricity, and a telephone, a source of heat, a/c, a sink, and toilet.
4.    There should be garbage collection/ and awareness of contamination.
5.    Do not forget sewage disposal, which could include normal sewage disposal methods like a community sewage line or a septic tank.
6.    Contaminated clothing needs cleaning away from the others. Extreme care in the handling with protective gloves and mask should occur.
7.    Provide food for the occupant daily. (High-risk people can prepare their own food when no one else is home.)
8.    Make sure the occupant has enough mental stimulation like access to the internet, television, a radio, reading materials, games, et cetera.
9.    Make sure there is no hugging or physical contact with occupant while the flu is in the area.  Anyone caring for the occupant and the occupant themselves needs the appropriate safety equipment and they include:

1. Goggles to protect the eyes
2. A facemask
3. Protective latex or vinyl exam gloves
4. Coveralls or a protective apron to protect against splash
5. Hand hygiene supplies
6. Tissues
7. Head covering
8. People should know that the virus could get into the home through tracking on shoes. If a person works, wash the right kind of shoes daily.

All the air from an isolation room must stay inside the room and not mix with any of the air in the rest of the house. This is a big problem. We solve it by making a negative pressure room.

We need the air to flow in one direction only. That would be under the door into the room. We do this through ventilation control. The secret is to make more air exit the room than comes in the room. Experts call it an offset. You can get more information on this in the free how to control the flu vs. cold before it starts manual.

The free guide also includes tips on getting the air to flow from the room to the house. It also shows you how to get the airflow from the house to the room. Plus tips on how single people could handle the quarantine by themselves. Call 719-237-1167 now!
