Stop the cold or flu before it starts, things you can do to stop flu vs. cold before it starts. Stopping a cold and the flu may not be what you EXPECT

What is the best approach, stopping the cold
and flu before it starts or to cure it later?

Any doctor will tell you an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure. Both the cold and the flu are viral infections. There are no cures for the cold or flu. You just have to live with a cold for a few days. It is a mild form of the flu.

Flu pandemics cause up to 50/70% of the populace to catch the germ. Not everyone catches the flu during a pandemic. Why is that? Many people think our immune system is the reason. Some of the people get a shield due to past contact. Others follow rules that stop the flu or cold before it starts.

The rules for avoiding the flu and cold during a flu pandemic are not the same as normal. Some things are the same but others are stricter. How cautious you need to be will depend on how severe the next flu wave is.

The 1918 flu and the swine flu are 95% the same in some aspects. Fatal cases show a mean age of 37 years for the swine flu. The normal flu’s mean age is 75 years. However, the mean age for the 1918 flu was 27 years. Life expectancy in 1918 was only 53 years.

I suggest people do things that will build a healthy immune system. However, not spend too much time building a stronger than average immune system. If you have a weak immune system, then build that to be normal. Spend your time on learning how to prevent the flu and cold before it starts.

The best way to avoid the cold vs. flu before it starts is to get a flu shot. Some people will catch a cold 7/8 times a year. There are recent news reports that point to a more deadly flu coming. When the density of uninfected people drops below a certain level, the virus will stop spreading. The same flu will eventually turn into the seasonal flu. Everyone will catch it. However, the key is to catch it will it is mild.

There are bunches of rules you must know to avoid the cold and flu. You will also need to change your habits. If you do not, your habits could make you do unsafe acts. You must master many details. The flu and cold have no mercy. If you do not cover all the bases, you could catch the virus.

Here are some things you can do to stop the flu or cold:

1. You must realize that details are king. General facts are better than no facts at all but to have the best chance of stopping the cold or the flu, you need to understand it. The small details can make the difference.

The virus is very small. How do you know when it is near you? You must know all the little details about where it usually is. You can stop it when you know where it is. You cannot see it, feel it, smell it, or hear it. Then you must change your habits that make contact with it. If you do not, without knowing it, you could contact the germ.

2. Do not cough in your hands! Do not cough or sneeze on your hands. This is a deeply ingrained habit. Experts say it takes 21 days to change a habit. Just reading this article will not cause you to change your habit. I know how to break habits. I used to teach karate at a very high level. The only way you will be able to learn how to stop doing certain habits is through doing the right things daily. You need positive/ negative feedback often. You can get a free interactive/ multimedia Stop the flu and cold manual by calling 719-237-1167 today! You do not want to spread the germ to someone else do you? You can use a tissue, then throw it away quickly or use the vampire cough. That is when you cough into the elbow area. It looks like the vampire pose.

3. Do not shake hands with people! One of the BIGGEST HABITS we all must control! Our society demands that we follow certain rules when greeting each other. The way we do this is very important. Breaking this habit or controlling this habit is huge. We know that people are coughing and sneezing on their hands constantly. For every person who is not, ten others do cough on their hands. You must control this habit. If you wear safety gloves, that will solve many problems. During a severe flu wave, I would not make contact with anyone. I am sure they will understand.

4. Wear Safety Gloves! If the next flu wave gets nasty, wear safety gloves daily. They will solve many problems. However, you must deal with the details of wearing them. If you do not respect the little details, then the gloves could be a source of infection.

5. We all must remember not to touch our face with our hands.

Are you k-I-D-D-I-N-G me? Let us be realistic, we have been touching our face with our hands our whole life, how in the world are we going to stop this? Practice makes perfect. If you go through scenarios daily, you can remember to scratch your face with a clean object. If not you will go crazy trying to stop touching your face with your hand. Your mind will keep reminding you not to touch it and causing it to itch. Try going the day without touching your face with your hands.

6. Washing your hands often seems like a simple task. However, if you do it without detail, you could let the germ in. For example, how often is often. Does that mean every five minutes or every hour? Check your hands for cuts and sores. If you have either one, cover with a bandage.

If you do not have protective gloves on, wash your hands whenever you do any of the following:

1. Touch hard surfaces like doorknobs, computer keys, phones, desktops, etc.
2. Go to the restroom
3. Eat
4. Cough, sneeze, and wipe your nose
5. Handle money
6. Touch a pet
7. I do not advice using a cell phone in a severe flu wave; do to contamination of the phone. However, in an emergency wash your hands afterwards
8. Wash your hands after looking at a piece of paper or napkin that was someone else used
9. After working outside

Wash your hands correctly.

Wet your hands with water: Use good quality soap on your hands

Rub hands for at least 30 seconds. Count to yourself one thousand one, one thousand two, until completed. Use warm water and scrub your nails by rubbing them against the palms of your hands. (Turn water off using a hand towel or paper you brought with you.)

Do not touch the handle with bare hands. It probably is contaminated.

Rinse for at least 30 seconds. Your hands should get hard to rub

Dry with a paper towel or use the electric dry. Do not touch the activator with bare hands

Turn off the faucet using the paper towel. You could get the virus from the handle. Your pockets could have germs on them, do not stick your hands in your pockets just before eating

Use a 70-90% alcohol wash. Do not let children contact any products containing alcohol. They may eat the product causing serious health problems

Use lotion to stop dry skin. Stay away from using oil-based hand creams it might cause latex gloves to fall apart

7. Safety Mask: If the next flu wave gets severe, you should get a safety mask to help stop the spread of the germ. Do not think that wearing a mask will protect you from someone coughing in your face. It may not. However, the more people who wear masks, the better for everyone else. The best choice is to stay away from other people. When people sneeze, germs float in the air, people inhale it while it is in the air. Also, they touch it after it lands on hard surfaces. It can infect you for up to days. There are key things that go along with wearing the mask.

8. Do not hug other people! That is easier to talk about than to do. What do you do when a loved one rushes up to you and puts you in a bear hug? Remember, people should be coughing in their elbow/handkerchief, which means that the virus will be all over their arms/bodies. You could touch their
arms/clothes and get the germ on you. Do not make contact with other people.

9. Stay 5 to 6 feet away from people. People will spray the germ while talking in close quarters. If they sneeze/cough, you could catch the germ then.

10. Do physical exercise daily to keep your body strong. During a strong flu wave, you should not do more than one hour of exercise a day. The key is not to over-work your body that could lower your immune system. You should focus on things that cause you to breathe heavily. That includes running, cycling, jump rope, step classes, etc. Anything that causes a lot of blood to circulate will work. This could help you stay healthy. However, the more severe the next flu is could mean you may need to do this at your home.

11. Learn How to do group/self-hypnosis. This can help build your immune system plus your heart/mind. Tell all to shut their eyes and sit with backs straight in a relaxed place. Do not go asleep. Then say you are feeling great in a soft low tone. Your body is floating on a thick heavy cloud without a care in the world.

You can imagine and respond to anything that I say.
You have any worries. You feel like the king or queen of the world. You feel like your floating on a thick heavy cloud high in the air without a care in the world. Imagine you are at the beach and you are looking at the waves as they roll out and roll back in. you are relaxing deeper and deeper. You do not have a care in the world. Your body feels like you will float with the water in the next wave.

Relax and let go. The waves roll in and you hear the sound of the waves as they crash against the shore softly. You feel your body floating in the water so relaxed, you feel good no fears. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly releasing the air from your lungs and your body relaxes even deeper. Your body from your head to your toes relaxes deeper.

What a beautiful day as the rays from the sun make you relax deeper.
You relax deeper. Now I am going to start at 10 and count backwards to one. When I reach, one you will be very relaxed. Ten you feel great relax deeper, nine take a deep breath, exhale and go deeper in relaxation. Eight take another deep breath and exhale slowly and relax deeper, seven deeper and deeper, let your mind drift on the beach, relax six deeper, five heavy and relaxed, four going deeper and deeper, three you feel great, two let go, one you are completely relaxed.

Make sure to speak slowly and pause after certain statements so that the person hearing your descriptions can respond to them properly.

Many people will go under fast. At that point, then fill their minds with positive ways to look at life. For example, you might say, today will be a great day to get things done. The whole day will be like a walk in the park. Our strong minds and attitudes will allow us to win any battle that we must face today. We can survive anything that may occur and we all pledge that we will pursue our goal today with as much strength as we can muster.

Do not use the negative to motivate.
For example, do not say we will not cry or complain. Use words and phrases that draw an image of success! For example, we might say we will surprise ourselves with our bravery in tough times. You only need to do this for a short time. Then tell them that you are going to count from one to ten and when you reach, ten they will awake fresh, alert and ready to tackle the day. You can bring them out of the relaxed state faster than going into the relaxed state.
